Moving Within Saskatoon: Neighbourhood Notes
Notes for moving within Saskatoon: which power utility serves your new home, notice rules for renters, and winter moving days.
Saskatoon had 266,141 people in about 107,000 occupied homes in the 2021 census, up 7.7% from 2016. Calls can come from any neighbourhood, from Riversdale and Nutana to newer areas such as Stonebridge, Brighton and Evergreen.
Check who supplies power at the new address. The City of Saskatoon says Saskatoon Light & Power serves the area inside the 1958 city boundary, and SaskPower serves areas outside it. Some neighbourhoods, including Arbor Creek, College Park East, Erindale, Evergreen and Westview, are served by both. If you're not sure, the City says to check a utility bill for the address or call Saskatoon Light & Power at 306-975-2414 during business hours. SaskEnergy, the natural gas utility, asks you to let it know when you move, online through ExpressAddress or by phone, and says it starts processing a request within two business days.
Renting? Saskatchewan's Office of Residential Tenancies says that in a month-to-month tenancy, a tenant gives one month's notice: by the day before rent is due, ending the day before rent is due the next month. A moving marketplace notes that movers can be harder to book around month-end and the university calendar, so ask early.
Winter moves need extra time. In an average January, Saskatoon's daily high is −10.0 °C and its low −20.7 °C (Environment Canada 1991–2020 normals). Clear and salt the walkways at both ends before the movers arrive, and ask the mover how it protects floors from snow and grit.
Getting there
Movers come to you, so give both neighbourhoods when you call. For reference, City Hall is about 10 minutes (9 km) from Stonebridge, 11 minutes (8 km) from Brighton and 17 minutes (13 km) from Evergreen, without traffic. Ask whether travel time is billed.
